The grade 6 and 7 students from AJ Elliott attended STEM day on May 13th, 2014. We left on the early ferry and went to Port Alice by bus!!! The road is very curvy and the location beautiful. Students participated in a challenge which required them to address an oil spill (theoretical) off of Cape Scott. They were to design a way to catch and retrieve the oil from the ocean using straws, cotton balls, spoons and other small items. They were then to do a cost analysis of their design. The students were engaged and employed math, science and interpersonal skills to complete the challenge. At the end of the event one AJ team (Micheal, Colesa, Niall and Justin) won the best overall design award. Our school, for our three outstanding teams, won best overall. Excellent work!
